Why we're building Timebun

Timebun started as a frustration, not a plan. We'd both worked with — and around — time tracking and billing tools built for every kind of team at once, and none of them felt like they were built for the way agencies, studios, and professional services firms actually sell their time.

Why we built Timebun

Most time trackers treat an hour as an hour. But firms that sell time don't bill it one way — some clients are hourly, some are on a retainer with a monthly hours allowance, some pre-pay for a bundle and draw it down over months. We kept hitting the same wall: track time in one tool, manage retainers in a spreadsheet, handle client balance questions over email, and stitch it all together by hand at invoice time.

So we built the tool we actually wanted to run our own business on.

Built for professional services, not everyone

Timebun isn't trying to be a time tracker for every team on earth. It's built specifically for agencies, studios, consultancies, and firms whose product is, literally, their people's time. That focus shapes every decision: retainers and pre-paid balances are first-class billing models instead of a workaround, margin is tracked per entry instead of estimated after the fact, and clients get their own portal instead of a status-update email.

If your business sells hours, the tools you run it on should know that — not treat billing as an afterthought bolted onto a generic timer.

Who's building it

Timebun is built by the two of us: me, and my co-founder Gabriel. We're a small team on purpose right now — close enough to the people using Timebun every day that a support message can turn into a shipped fix the same week.

What's in Timebun today

Client portal

Clients get a portal of their own — their balance, their history, and a way to top up or pay an invoice without pinging you for a status update. It carries your branding, so it feels like part of your business, not a bolt-on.

MCP integration

Timebun connects to the AI tools you already use through MCP (Model Context Protocol), so an assistant can check a client's balance, log time, or pull a report without you switching tabs to go find it.

AI-first, not AI-bolted-on

We didn't build Timebun and sprinkle AI on top afterward. Time entry, invoice drafting, and reporting are built assuming an AI assistant might be doing them alongside you — less manual data entry, more time actually billing for your work instead of tracking it.
